South Texas Weather: Crisp Sunday Gives Way to Midweek Warmup as High Pressure Builds

Residents across South Texas can enjoy ideal autumn conditions Sunday before an approaching high-pressure ridge drives an unseasonable late-October warmup across the region.

Clear skies, light winds, and crisp air will dominate throughout the day, providing temporary relief after months of persistent heat. However, the mild pattern will quickly shift as atmospheric ridging takes hold across Texas by midweek, pushing afternoon temperatures well above seasonal norms.

Crisp Sunday Setup Across San Antonio and the Hill Country

Sunday morning opened on a brisk note across the greater San Antonio metropolitan area. Temperatures dipped into the upper 40s across outer suburbs before 8 a.m., while urban centers held in the lower 50s. Farther north in the Texas Hill Country, communities from Kerrville to Fredericksburg experienced early-morning lows between 40 and 43 degrees.

Abundant sunshine will filter through scattered high clouds throughout the afternoon, steadily lifting readings across the region:

  • Mid-morning: Temperatures climb past 60 degrees by 10 a.m.
  • Afternoon peak: Highs will top out between 72 and 74 degrees under light easterly breezes around 5 mph.
  • Evening cooldown: Readings will retreat into the 60s by sunset, settling into the mid-50s overnight into early Monday.

Steeper Warming Trend Takes Over This Week

A strengthening high-pressure dome will establish itself over Texas beginning Monday, driving daily temperature increases through the end of the workweek:

  • Monday: Pleasant conditions linger, with afternoon highs reaching approximately 77 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Thermometers climb into the lower 80s under partly cloudy skies.
  • Wednesday through Friday: The core of the ridge takes control, pushing highs into the mid-80s Wednesday and the upper 80s by Thursday and Friday.

Overnight lows will gradually rise alongside daytime highs, moderating from the 50s into the low-to-mid 60s by Thursday and Friday morning.

Precipitation chances remain minimal across South Texas throughout the warming stretch. While an isolated shower could develop between Tuesday night and Wednesday, rain chances sit near 10 percent in San Antonio, leaving virtually the entire region dry.

Extended Outlook: Tracking the Next Weekend Front

Long-range forecasting models indicate that dry, stable weather will persist into next weekend. A passing mid-level disturbance traversing the central United States may trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms across South Texas around Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, though overall rain probabilities remain capped around 20 percent.

Beyond next weekend, above-normal temperatures appear set to linger through the final week of October, maintaining afternoon highs in the mid-80s and nighttime lows in the mid-to-upper 60s.
