Paxton and Talarico Launch Rival Bus Tours Across North Texas as Senate Race Heats Up

With Texas early voting set to open Monday, the state’s high-stakes U.S. Senate contest shifted into high gear this weekend as Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Representative James Talarico rolled out dueling statewide bus tours from North Texas.

The rival road trips showcase two fundamentally contrasting visions for the Lone Star State. Paxton is leaning heavily on historic defiance with his “Come and Take It” tour, while Talarico is promoting bipartisan solidarity under the banner of his “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts Tour”—a nod to the iconic Texas high school football drama Friday Night Lights.

Both contenders chose key North Texas suburban hubs to launch their final statewide pushes ahead of the November 3 general election, underscoring the critical role changing suburban demographics play in deciding statewide races.

Paxton Rallies Base with Historic Defiance

Paxton opened his 18-day campaign swing on Saturday at the Rockwall Municipal Airport, speaking to an audience of roughly 200 supporters. During his remarks, the attorney general framed the election as an existential battle to safeguard conservative principles, specifically citing Christian faith, the ranching community, and the energy sector against progressive encroachment.

“This contest comes down to protecting our nation and defending Texas,” Paxton told the crowd.

The event opened with remarks and a prayer from Paxton’s son-in-law, Daniel Hayworth, pastor of Vintage Church in Harker Heights. Paxton pushed attendees to cast ballots early and mobilize their networks ahead of Election Day.

“Our team will put in the legwork, but we depend on your prayers,” Paxton said.

The attorney general’s route will weave through Allen, Fort Worth, Houston, El Paso, and multiple stops across South and West Texas before concluding on November 2 at the Alamo in San Antonio.

“Here in Texas, ‘Come and Take It’ isn’t merely a catchphrase—it remains an absolute commitment,” Paxton noted in a campaign statement.

Talarico Campaigns on Unity and Ethics

Talarico kicks off his road trip Sunday in Plano, pitching a collaborative platform intended to appeal across traditional party lines. The Austin lawmaker argues that voters have grown weary of political tribalism.

“Everyday Texans don’t want to be pitted against each other—red against blue, urban against rural,” Talarico stated. “Our goal on this tour is to bring working families together under a single banner.”

Alongside his unifying pitch, Talarico continues to spotlight Paxton’s persistent legal battles and ethical scrutiny, characterizing his opponent as self-interested and out of touch with average voters.

“Texans simply cannot tolerate Ken Paxton’s record of corruption,” Talarico said during a televised CNN town hall earlier this week. He framed the choice as one between “a senator working to enrich everyday families, or someone focused on lining his own pockets.”

Talarico’s itinerary begins Monday with stops in Denton and Fort Worth before proceeding through East Texas, the Gulf Coast, Houston, San Antonio, South Texas, Lubbock, and El Paso. He will revisit Dallas on October 29 before wrapping up his campaign on November 2 with a final rally in Austin.
