Talarico’s Fundraising Machine Dominates Early Senate Race, Outpacing Paxton Across Every State

Dallas, Texas — Newly released Federal Election Commission (FEC) campaign finance filings show Democrat James Talarico entering the general election with an extraordinary fundraising advantage over Republican nominee and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, highlighting a financial imbalance rarely seen in a modern Texas statewide race.

An analysis of itemized individual contributions for the second quarter of 2026, compiled by PrecinctSmart using FEC data, shows Talarico raising $11.87 million from individual donors during the reporting period, compared with $418,822 for Paxton. That represents a fundraising advantage of more than 27-to-1, with Talarico outraising his Republican opponent by roughly 2,733 percent.

The disparity extends beyond dollars. Talarico attracted 37,378 individual donors, while Paxton reported 1,256, giving the Democratic nominee nearly 30 times as many contributors during the quarter.

Perhaps most striking is the campaign’s geographic reach. According to the analysis, Talarico led Paxton in individual contributions from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Texas remained the largest source of support, where Talarico held an advantage of approximately $5.6 million in itemized individual donations. California ranked second with a gap of nearly $1.6 million, followed by New York (+$482,000), Massachusetts (+$397,000), Washington (+$340,000), and Florida (+$247,000).

Even in states where the contest was comparatively closer, Talarico maintained the lead. Iowa showed the narrowest margin at roughly $15,000, followed by Delaware ($12,000), West Virginia ($6,000), South Dakota ($5,000), and North Dakota ($3,000).

The fundraising numbers reinforce a broader trend emerging in the Texas Senate race. Since winning the Democratic nomination, Talarico has rapidly built a nationwide donor network fueled largely by small and mid-sized individual contributions. Political analysts note that his campaign has become one of the strongest Democratic fundraising operations in Texas history.

For Republicans, the numbers underscore an ongoing effort to reunify major donors following a contentious GOP primary. While Paxton’s campaign has argued that fundraising will accelerate as the general election intensifies, several reports indicate some traditional Republican donors remain hesitant, forcing the campaign to rely more heavily on outside organizations and national Republican support.

Fundraising alone does not determine election outcomes, particularly in a state as large and expensive as Texas. However, campaign cash translates directly into television advertising, digital outreach, voter contact, staffing, and turnout operations. With more than 19 million registered voters and multiple costly media markets, financial resources can significantly shape campaign strategy during the final months before Election Day.

As the race shifts from the primary season to the general election, the latest FEC filings suggest one clear reality: Talarico enters the fall campaign with a substantial financial advantage and an unprecedented national donor base, while Paxton faces mounting pressure to close the fundraising gap before voters head to the polls.
