Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program Kicks Off 13th Year, Connecting Students With Paid Career Opportunities

Share

Plano is once again offering students a head start on their professional journeys as the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (PMSIP) launches its 13th year. Mayor John Muns officially kicked off the 2026 program on January 13 at the Capital One Conference Center, opening the application period for rising Plano ISD juniors and seniors seeking paid, career-building summer internships.

A Proven Launchpad for Student Careers

Since 2014, PMSIP has provided more than 1,000 students with hands-on professional experience across North Texas. Interns gain exposure to local businesses, civic organizations, and nonprofits, combining skill-building with real-world workplace experiences. Last summer, 87 students participated, supported by over 65 community partners.

Interns earn at least $13 per hour and work 20 to 40 hours per week during the June 8–July 31 program. Before placement, students complete a full day of professional training covering resume writing, interview skills, and personal branding, followed by a job fair where they meet potential employers.Mayor Muns highlighted the program’s value, saying, “The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is one of our community’s most powerful tools for expanding economic mobility. It helps ensure we are preparing a strong, skilled, future-ready workforce.”

Community and Corporate Support Driving Success

Capital One, the founding and presenting sponsor, leads a group of corporate partners including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Toyota Motor North America, Samsung, PepsiCo, and Texas Health Resources Plano. Plano ISD also plays a vital role in helping students prepare for and succeed in their placements.

Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams noted the long-term benefits for students, emphasizing that internships not only provide summer employment but also build confidence, career exploration skills, and professional habits that last well beyond graduation.

How to Apply or Participate

The 2026 application window runs from January 16 through February 9, or until 300 applications are received. Interested students, businesses, or nonprofits can find more information and apply at planomayorsinterns.org.

Entering its 13th year, PMSIP continues to exemplify public-private collaboration, preparing Plano’s students for meaningful careers while strengthening the city’s future workforce.
