A group of McKinney students, led by James Houston, is organizing the “Hate Stops Here, March for Peace” rally on Sunday, Feb. 22, from noon to 2 p.m. The event will begin at McKinney High School and conclude at Glenn Mitchell Park in Historic Downtown McKinney.
The student-led demonstration is intended to promote unity and peaceful action in response to what organizers describe as rising division and prejudice. According to the event description, the rally focuses on protecting classmates, families and the broader community, while encouraging residents not to remain silent in the face of hate or intimidation. Organizers say the march is rooted in the belief that peace requires collective action.
The Collin County Democratic Party (CCDP) has announced its support for the event and plans to participate. Party leaders said they affirm the First Amendment rights of individuals to peacefully protest and speak out against hate and intimidation, and they are encouraging community members to attend. Participants will gather at McKinney High School, located at 1400 Wilson Creek Parkway, before marching to Glenn Mitchell Park. Organizers have emphasized a commitment to nonviolent action and stated that attendees are expected to act lawfully, avoid escalation and treat others with respect. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, are strongly discouraged.
Additional details and updates about the event are available through the student organizers’ social media channels and the Collin County Democratic Party’s event page. The rally is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
