McKinney ISD Approves New Attendance Zones After Closing Three Elementary Schools

Share

McKinney ISD has approved new attendance boundaries for the 2026–2027 school year following the decision to close three elementary schools as part of a district-wide realignment plan. After months of study and community input, the board of trustees voted to close C.T. Eddins, Arthur H. McNeil and Earl & Lottie Wolford elementary schools to better balance enrollment and address long-term facility and budget challenges.

District leaders say the changes respond to shifting demographics, with declining enrollment in southern McKinney and continued growth in northern areas. Rising housing costs and lower student populations contributed to the closures, which also help address a projected $23 million budget shortfall. Updated attendance maps for elementary, middle and high schools have been released, and families will receive direct communication about the changes.

To support students and families, McKinney ISD plans to offer transition assistance, including campus tours, orientation events and priority transfer options. While some parents have expressed sadness and frustration over the closures, district officials emphasized their commitment to student stability and long-term educational quality as similar enrollment trends affect other North Texas school districts.
