Lone Star’s Historic Run Ends with State Runner-Up Finish

Share

The Lone Star Rangers closed a remarkable football season as the Class 5A Division I state runner-up after falling 28–6 to Smithson Valley at AT&T Stadium. The loss ended a historic campaign in which Lone Star became the first Frisco ISD team to start a season 15–0 and only the second from the district to reach a state championship game.

Despite trailing 6–0 at halftime, the Rangers’ defense kept them competitive throughout the night. Lone Star’s lone score came in the final minute on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Trey Wright to Logan Brown. Head coach Jeff Rayburn praised his team’s resilience and unity, noting the players battled until the final whistle.

Along the playoff run, Lone Star defeated traditional powerhouses Highland Park and Aledo, underscoring the program’s growth on the state stage. While the championship eluded them, players reflected with pride on a season that included 16 games, a trip to the finals, and a place in Frisco ISD history.
