Collin County Sets Stage for 2026 Elections

Collin County voters will return to the polls in March to select Republican and Democratic nominees for the November general election, which will determine key local, state, and federal offices.The filing deadline for candidates seeking placement on the primary ballot was Monday, Dec. 8. The party primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday, March 3.
According to Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, marks the first day voters may apply for a ballot by mail. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, Feb. 2. Early voting begins Tuesday, Feb. 17, and continues through Friday, Feb. 27. The final day to apply for a ballot by mail is Friday, Feb. 20. If necessary, runoff elections will be held Tuesday, May 26.Collin County Elections Administrator Kaleb Breaux said preparations are underway to determine the final number of polling locations. Texas Election Code uses a formula for vote center counties to calculate the number of polling locations during state and federal elections, Breaux said. “Senate Bill 985 allows us to combine certain precincts used in that formula. We expect between 91 and 100 election day polling locations.”
The general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, will decide a wide range of offices, including governor, all 150 seats in the Texas House, 16 state Senate seats, and multiple county-level positions. At the federal level, voters will choose one U.S. Senate seat and all 38 Texas seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Statewide Races
Gov. Greg Abbott is seeking a fourth term and faces several challengers in the Republican primary, including Arturo Espinosa, Pete “Doc” Chambers, Evelyn Brooks, Kenneth Hyde, Ronnie Tullos, Nathaniel Welsh, Charles Andrew Crouch, and R.F. “Bob” Achgill. Democrats will also select a gubernatorial nominee. A preliminary list from the Collin County Democratic Party includes Chris Bell, Patricia Abrego, Bobby Cole, Gina Hinojosa, Angela Villescaz, Navarro Balbuena, Zach Vance, and Carlton W. Hart. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick faces Republican primary challengers Esala Wueschner, Perla Munoz Hopkins, and Timothy Mabry. Democrat Vicki Goodwin has also filed for the office.
After nearly 24 years in Washington, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is facing a competitive Republican primary against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt of Houston, Sara Canady, and John O. Adefope. Potential Democratic candidates include U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Dallas, State Rep. James Talarico of Austin, and Ahmad R. Hassan.
With Crockett entering the Senate race, former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred—who unsuccessfully challenged Sen. Ted Cruz in 2024—has withdrawn and filed for the newly redrawn 33rd Congressional District.
Congressional and Legislative Contests
Crockett’s 30th Congressional District seat has drawn four Democratic candidates: Pastor Frederick Haynes III of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, Rodney LaBruce, Saul Rodriguez, and Oscar Villar. Republican candidates include Sholdon Daniels, Gregor Heise, Everett Jackson, Cody Nickerson, Stephani Reazor, Michael Alan Viroux, and Nils Walker. In the 3rd Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Keith Self is challenged in the Republican primary by Mark Newgent. Democrat Evan Hunt and independent candidate Brittany Black are also in the race.
At the state level, District 67 Rep. Jeff Leach faces Matt Thorsen in the Republican primary. Democrats Emeka Eluka and Jordan Wheatley are seeking the party’s nomination. District 89 Rep. Candy Noble is challenged for the Republican nomination by former Wylie City Councilmember Jeff Forrester. The winner will face Democrat Angie Carraway in the general election.
County Races
On the Collin County Commissioners Court, incumbent County Judge Chris Hill faces Republican challenger Rick Grady, a former Plano city councilmember. Democrat John R. “Buster” Brown is also running. Precinct 2 Commissioner Cheryl Williams is opposed in the Republican primary by former Parker councilmember Michael Slaughter.
In Precinct 4, Commissioner Duncan Webb is retiring. Republican voters will choose between Woody Huffines and Shelby Williams, a former Plano councilmember and Collin County Republican chair. Julie Holmer is the lone Democratic candidate.
