Allen and Plano West carried the final hopes for local Class 6A boys soccer teams as the UIL state semifinals unfolded Thursday and Friday across Texas. Both programs reached the final four, but each saw its postseason run end before the state championship game.

Allen’s season ends in penalty kicks

Allen returned to the state semifinals for the second time in four years in 2026. The Eagles finished second in District 6-6A and began the playoffs with a 1-0 bi-district victory over Hebron, followed by a 2-1 win against Sam Houston in the area round.

As the postseason advanced, Allen continued to win tight matches. The Eagles edged Keller 1-0, then survived a late rally from Lake Highlands to claim a 4-3 victory in the regional final. Allen’s semifinal match in the Class 6A Division I bracket against Klein Cain followed a familiar pattern. Much like the team’s 2023 semifinal appearance, Allen pushed the game beyond regulation. Neither side scored during the 80 minutes of regulation, and the 20-minute overtime period also ended without a goal.

The match was ultimately decided in a penalty shootout. Allen converted four of its five attempts, but Klein Cain finished a perfect five-for-five to eliminate the Eagles. Allen closed the season with a 23-3-2 overall record, one win shy of a place in the state final.

Plano West’s strong playoff run comes to a close

Plano West entered the postseason as the District 6-6A champion and competed in the Class 6A Division II playoff bracket.

The Wolves opened with convincing victories over Guyer in the bi-district round and Grand Prairie in the area round. Their path became more difficult in the regional rounds, where they earned a 3-2 win over Southlake Carroll in the semifinals and followed it with a 2-1 victory over Jesuit in the regional final. Plano West then traveled to Georgetown for its second straight state semifinal appearance, this time facing The Woodlands College Park. The Cavaliers scored the only goal of the match, ending Plano West’s season and securing their own return trip to Georgetown next week.

The Wolves finished the year with a 19-6 record.

Two deep playoff runs for local 6A programs

Although neither Allen nor Plano West advanced to the UIL state championship match, both teams delivered strong postseason performances and represented the area well in Class 6A play. Allen’s penalty-kick exit and Plano West’s narrow semifinal defeat marked the end of two notable playoff runs.
