Frisco Sets January 31, 2026 for Special Election to Fill City Council Place 1 Vacancy

Share

Frisco residents will head to the polls early next year after the City of Frisco announced a Special Election scheduled for January 31, 2026, to fill the vacant City Council Place 1 seat. The vacancy was created when the sitting council member resigned on October 27, 2025, prompting the city to call an election to ensure uninterrupted representation for Frisco taxpayers and stakeholders.

The winner of the Special Election will serve out the remainder of the unexpired term, which runs through May 2027. City officials say the election timeline has been structured to give both candidates and voters ample opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

Candidate Filing Opens in November

Prospective candidates can officially submit their applications for a place on the ballot beginning November 10, 2025. The filing period will remain open until December 1, 2025, the final day for candidates to enter the race. Those elected to the Frisco City Council help shape city policy, development, public safety planning and long-term community growth.

Voter Registration Deadline Approaches

Residents who wish to vote in the Special Election must be registered by December 31, 2025. City officials encourage eligible voters who have recently moved, changed their name or are new to Frisco to verify their registration status before the year-end deadline.

Early Voting Runs January 14–27

Early voting for the Special Election will be held from January 14 through January 27, 2026, giving voters nearly two weeks of flexibility before Election Day. Locations and hours for early voting will be announced by the city closer to the start of the voting period.

Election Day Set for January 31

The Special Election will culminate on Saturday, January 31, 2026, when polling locations across Frisco open for in-person voting. Final results will be certified following standard election procedures.
