Uninsured and underinsured residents in North Texas have a rare opportunity to receive professional skin care at no cost on Wednesday. In honor of World Skin Health Day on July 8, two local charitable clinics are opening their doors for a specialized event aimed at removing financial barriers to healthcare and catching potential skin issues early.

Volunteer dermatologists will provide free skin consultations, educational materials, and guidance on subsequent medical treatments. The local pop-up events are part of a broader national initiative to expand dermatological access, coordinated by skincare brand CeraVe and the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC).

Overcoming Healthcare Barriers in Texas

The initiative addresses a critical gap in regional healthcare. According to recent data from the Commonwealth Fund, Texas leads the United States with the highest rate of uninsured residents, exceeding 20%. The state also struggles heavily with pediatric care; the uninsured rate for Texas children is more than double the national average, making up over 20% of all uninsured young children in the country.

“Skin conditions impact roughly one-third of people globally, yet a vast number of communities simply lack access to specialist care, which severely delays crucial diagnoses and treatment,” Gene Colón, an executive at CeraVe, said in a statement. “For people without adequate insurance, the sheer expense of a dermatology specialist often acts as an insurmountable roadblock.”

Since launching their partnership in 2023, CeraVe and the NAFC have worked to bridge these gaps. On Wednesday, the organizations are activating free skin health clinics at 12 locations nationwide, including the two Dallas sites.

Participating Dallas Clinic Locations and Rules

The two local facilities operate as charitable entities that routinely offer healthcare access and low-cost medications to vulnerable populations. While specific qualification rules vary by network, services are generally reserved for individuals whose household income falls between 100% and 300% of the federal poverty line. Uninsured individuals can visit the following Dallas locations on Wednesday:

  • St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy: Located at 5750 Pineland Dr. in Northeast Dallas. The pharmacy operates from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Patients should note that this facility restricts its services to uninsured residents living within designated local ZIP codes.
  • Agape Clinic: Located at 4104 Junius St. in Old East Dallas. The clinic is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

World Skin Health Day is an annual public health campaign organized globally by the International League of Dermatological Societies and the International Society of Dermatology. Patients seeking detailed eligibility requirements or looking to locate alternative clinics that provide discounted or free dermatological care throughout the year can find more resources on the NAFC and CeraVe World Skin Health websites.
