Komodo Dallas Closes Suddenly After Less Than Three Years in Deep Ellum

The upscale restaurant Komodo Dallas has permanently closed its location in Deep Ellum, ending its run in Dallas less than three years after opening.
The closure happened abruptly, with customers reportedly receiving text messages notifying them that the restaurant would no longer operate and that upcoming reservations had been canceled.
No formal announcement was posted on social media or on the parent company’s website at the time of closure.
Two-Story Deep Ellum Dining Destination
Komodo Dallas opened in April 2023 inside The Epic development and quickly became known for its large-scale, two-story design spanning approximately 22,500 square feet.
The venue combined a restaurant, bar, and lounge concept with a dramatic interior and a menu focused on elevated Southeast Asian cuisine alongside steak offerings. One of its signature dishes was Peking duck, which was featured prominently alongside a broader selection of premium items and seasonal specials.
The restaurant also gained attention for its cocktail program and high-energy atmosphere, positioning itself as a luxury dining and nightlife destination in Dallas’ Deep Ellum district.
Part of a National Hospitality Brand
The Dallas location was the only Texas outpost of Groot Hospitality, founded by restaurateur David Grutman. While the Komodo brand in Dallas has now closed, other locations such as Komodo Miami and Komodo Las Vegas remain in operation.
Groot Hospitality continues to operate several high-profile venues across Miami and Las Vegas, including LIV Nightclub locations and other restaurant and entertainment concepts.
The sudden closure leaves a notable vacancy in Deep Ellum’s dining scene, especially for large-format, high-end restaurant and lounge experiences.
