Dallas Area Rapid Transit riders should prepare for weekend delays as DART carries out maintenance work inside the Cityplace/Uptown Station tunnels, home to Texas’s only subway station.

The agency said service on the Red, Blue and Orange lines will be affected while crews reduce rail traffic to a single track between Pearl/Arts District Station and SMU/Mockingbird Station.

First Weekend Closure Runs April 24–27

The first round of work begins at 10 p.m. Friday, April 24, and continues until 3 a.m. Monday, April 27. During that period, Red and Blue line trains will share one track through the affected section.

DART plans a second round of work on the opposite track during the weekend of May 8–10, following the same schedule.

The Green Line will continue operating as normal. Orange Line service will be rerouted through the Green Line corridor, maintaining service between Lawnview and DFW Airport stations.

Maintenance Work Focuses on Safety and Reliability

DART said the weekend closures will allow crews to complete several tunnel and station improvements. Planned work includes upgrades to fire alarm systems, platform lighting improvements, platform cleaning and tunnel repairs.

Crews will also update and re-tension the overhead catenary system, which powers trains through the tunnel. DART said the work is intended to improve safety, reliability and train movement into and out of Cityplace/Uptown Station.

DART Says Improvements Will Support Faster Trips

Trey Walker, DART’s interim chief development officer, said the agency understands that service interruptions can inconvenience passengers but described the work as necessary for long-term reliability.

Walker said the maintenance is designed to support a safer and more dependable rider experience.

Once the work is completed, DART said passengers should see more efficient travel through Cityplace/Uptown Station. The agency said the upgraded overhead system will improve train connectivity in the tunnel, while better lighting and fire alarm systems will enhance station safety.
