The Eagles stayed perfect in District 6-6A play Tuesday, riding another dominant pitching performance to a 6-0 road win over Plano West.

Allen continued its run of dominant district play on Tuesday, defeating Plano West 6-0 at Plano Senior to secure its fifth straight shutout victory and remain unbeaten atop the District 6-6A standings.

The matchup initially developed into the kind of low-scoring game Allen has thrived in during recent weeks, and the Eagles once again leaned on strong pitching and timely offense to take control.

Allen Pitching Silences Plano West Again

Allen head coach Jason Wilson credited his staff’s competitiveness and trust in the defense behind them.

“Our pitchers are just serious competitors,” Wilson said. “They get on the mound and just pound the zone and rely on their defense. They’ve got some good stuff, too. ”The Eagles have depended on a three-man rotation throughout district play, and two of those pitchers combined to shut down Plano West on Tuesday. Senior JW Powell earned the win after throwing 5.2 scoreless innings, while senior Caiden Muskat recorded the final four outs to close the game. Powell allowed only two hits, struck out seven and walked three. He also retired five straight batters on two separate occasions.

Wilson praised Powell’s command and stuff after the game. “I thought Powell was really good tonight with an overpowering fastball and a really good slider,” he said.

Early Pitchers’ Duel Keeps Game Tight

Plano West kept pace early behind sophomore Parker Scott, who opened the game with three scoreless and hitless innings.

But Allen broke through in the top of the fourth. Senior Shea Young led off the inning with a single, and senior Ryan Blessing later laid down a sacrifice bunt to move two runners into scoring position. With two outs, Muskat lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run of the game. On the next at-bat, senior Chandler Hart scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 2-0.

Wilson said Allen’s approach at the plate was not as sharp as it had been in earlier games. “I think they were a little frustrated at the plate tonight,” he said. “We weren’t really on time and were swinging at some bad pitches. It wasn’t really how we’ve been hitting this year. We’ve been pretty good at getting pitches we could drive and score a lot of runs.”

Young, Muskat Help Put the Game Away

Allen finished with seven hits, all of them coming in the final four innings. Young went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and delivered the game’s biggest blow in the seventh inning with a two-run home run.

Muskat, who drove in the first run of the night, added an RBI single later in the inning to help stretch the lead to 6-0. He finished with two RBIs in the victory.

Allen Eyes First-Place Showdown With Prosper

The win improved Allen to 10-0 in district play heading into a major road matchup against second-place Prosper at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Prosper enters that game at 7-3.

Plano West fell to 8-4 in district competition and is now tied for third place with McKinney Boyd. The Wolves saw their seven-game winning streak snapped during the two-game set against Allen and will look to bounce back at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Plano against Princeton.
