Collin County Candidates React to Primary Election Results

Following the March primary elections, candidates across Collin County and Texas’ 3rd Congressional District shared messages with supporters as the focus shifts toward the November general election.
Several candidates used social media and campaign statements to thank volunteers and voters, reflect on their campaigns and outline what lies ahead.
TX-03 Congressional Race
In Texas’ 3rd Congressional District, Republican incumbent Keith Self will face Democratic nominee Evan Hunt in the November general election. Self thanked supporters after securing the Republican nomination.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust you have placed in me once again,” Self said, citing priorities such as border security, reducing federal spending and strengthening the economy. Hunt also addressed supporters, highlighting strong turnout during the primary election.
“Something big is happening in Texas,” Hunt wrote, noting that more than 2.5 million Texans voted during early voting, the highest number recorded for a Texas primary. Hunt also said he personally visited Self’s Collin County office following the election to congratulate him and invite him to a town hall debate scheduled for March 11.
House District 61
Candidates in Texas House District 61 also reflected on the results. Democratic nominee Brittany Black thanked voters for their support. “Tuesday, the voters of House District 61 made their voices heard, and I’m deeply humbled by their trust,” Black said. Her primary opponent Jackie Bescherer also thanked supporters and volunteers for their efforts during the campaign.On the Republican side, incumbent Keresa Richardson credited volunteers and supporters who worked on her campaign.“Thank you again to everyone who worked, walked, talked, and manned the polls,” Richardson wrote.
Republican challenger Frederick Frazier also expressed gratitude for those who supported his campaign.
House District 67
In House District 67, Republican candidate Matt Thorsen reflected on the race after the primary.“This campaign was a true grassroots battle to bring real conservative change to House District 67,” Thorsen said. Democratic candidate Emeka Eluka, who finished second in the Democratic primary, said the campaign provided valuable experience.
“I’m happy with what I was able to achieve doing this all by myself,” Eluka said, adding the race could prepare him for a potential run in the future.
House District 70
In House District 70, Republican nominee George Flint thanked voters and volunteers for their support following the primary. Another Republican candidate, Michael Hewitt, also shared appreciation for those who backed his campaign. Democratic nominee and incumbent Mihaela Plesa said she was honored by the support she received from voters.
“I’m incredibly honored to have been nominated as the Democratic nominee for HD-70 with a historic number of votes,” Plesa said.
House District 89
In House District 89, Republican incumbent Candy Noble thanked supporters after winning her party’s primary. Her opponent Jeff Forrester also expressed gratitude to supporters and campaign volunteers. Democratic nominee Angie Carraway highlighted the strong vote total she received and credited her campaign’s volunteer base.
Party Reaction
Collin County Democratic Party Chair Jeremy Sutka also commented on the primary results, noting that 95,756 Democratic ballots were cast in the county. Sutka described the turnout as a record for a non-presidential primary election, crediting volunteers, precinct chairs and candidates for mobilizing voters.
